I was scrolling Instagram the other day, and I came across a long post by some influencer sharing a list of goals she wrote 10 years ago, and how almost all of it came true; being famous, having a podcast, etc. Her main message being, “WRITE YOUR LIST AND MANIFEST THAT SHIT.” I swear I scroll past dozens of posts sharing similar messages and how to achieve what you aspire to be. When I was a kid, I would DREAM about the future. I couldn’t wait to be “grown up,” imagining what it would feel like to be an adult, with independence, and in a shabby chic home. I think I was about 26 when I realized, my age being older… didn’t make me feel any older… I was the same person and still felt like I always had. 🤯
I think we all are at fault for creating these expectations of what our future will be like- more money, happiness, time off, the freedom to live out our dream. We convince ourselves that our happiness, and what we deem successful, will come when conditions are met; hence, why we have not yet achieved those goals. You grow up striving to reach these life ambitions – graduate high school, graduate college, get a job, get married, have kids, the list goes on and on. We are taught that these different merits are leading us closer to the golden ticket that’s leading us to all of our dreams coming true.
Needless to say, the influencer influenced me. And I planned to write out my future as soon as I got home, one step closer to bringing all of my hopes and dreams into fruition. But when I started to brainstorm the ideal place I see myself in 10 years, the first ideas that came to mind were happiness, love, wealth, and health… and as I thought about it more, I realized that true happiness, true love, true wealth, and true success are not based on merit or accomplishment. The key is knowing these life aspirations exist within us already, and always have. No outside force or person can dictate or decide if you’re happy or not, wealthy or not, loved or not. You are your own worst enemy. We, YOU, have to reclaim your power and look at what your already have, rather than what you wish you had, so you could have no problems.
Dorinda Medley said on a podcast, that money does not change people, it only magnetizes who that person is. This is so true!!! A poor person with no money, may think all their problems would be solved if they just had money. And I’ve known people with money to say their life would be much easier without so much money. Their motto being, “mo money, mo problems.”
In this social media era, it is so easy to fall victim to comparing ourselves to the lives of others. We’re consumed with the lives of other people. Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, reality tv, YouTube, etc. Obsessing over what we don’t have or what we want more of, when really, we have it all already. “The robbers of time are the past and the future, man should – bless the past, and forget it, if it keeps him in bondage, and bless the future knowing it has in store for him endless joys, but live fully in the now” (FSS)
Future aspirations are only attainable when you’re able to recognize and be grateful for what you already have, and how far you have already come; Making the very most out of every day, and giving your all to the present moment, knowing you will never get to live the same day twice because tomorrow is not promised to any of us. To receive good, you must give good, share good, and have faith in knowing that God is good all the time.
“With the realization of wealth, we receive the gift of wealth. With the realization of success, we receive the gift of success, for success and abundance are states of mind.” (FSS, Secret Door To Success, pg 225)
